The Moto Z2 Force users on Verizon recently got updated to Android Pie which brings 5G support through Moto mod. The other carriers are also expected to rollout the update very soon.
However, according to a Motorola spokesperson, the company decided to cancel the Android Pie update for Z2 Force on other carriers like AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint. Motorola didin’t stated the reasons clearly but we expect the reason would be carrier’s update certification cost.
Verizon needs 5G support for Z2 force and Pie is needed for 5G mod support. So the carrier managed to release the Pie update to get 5G network support for the flagship.
However, Motorola told that the flagship will receive the security updates upto two years. As the Z2 Force flagship was released in summer of 2017, the two year period will end soon. So security updates support for Z2 Force will also end in a few months.
As it is very clear that Moto Z2 Force is not getting Pie on carriers other than Verizon, we advice the users to install Android Pie custom rom or upgrade to other latest flagships.
